camel: I've heard that some people actually make some money cabin sitting. They basically stay in a cabin (Kopper King, Minietta, Briggs) for people who want to use it on a particular weekend. Since cabins are first come, first serve it's not possible to guarantee availability, but a cabin sitter helps. Of course, it's necessary to have a friend or someone who will do it for money and the problem is that others have the same idea, especially when it comes to Briggs.

Hopefully no drunk redneck decides to put on a fireworks show at the cabin tonight and burn it to the ground as a result. A lot of the people I've seen go up that way aren't the types to be terribly careful when it comes to that sort of thing. Just sayin...

Drone view of Stone Cabin and Briggs Cabin in the Panamint section of Death Valley
As you can see it sometimes gets a bit crowded up there.

Crowded? Maybe if you hit it at the wrong time, but every time I've passed by the cabins they've been deserted. I have literally never seen anyone other than members of the party I'm with at the cabins. Apparently we have very good timing because I hate crowds!

If I had to shelter in place, I know where I'd go. Of course, a bunch of other people might have the same idea. Could get ugly!

I could just imagine rival gangs of rednecks fighting over the cabins up there. Either that or a bunch of rednecks are encamped at the cabins, but then a hispanic gang comes along and surrounds them and a bloody battle ensues. It could be the basis of a hollywood film! Each side could see itself has having the more legitimate claim to the site and the only way to resolve the dispute is to fight it out! How many times has that happened in the history of mankind?

An expert by the name of Jeff Foxworthy provides the following guidelines:
You might be a redneck if....
1) your brother in law is your uncle
2) your family tree does not fork
3) you prefer car keys to q-tips
4) none of your shirts cover your belly
5) you drink more beer than water
6) your bicycle has a gun rack
7) you attend your family reunion to pick up women
8) your blood alcohol level has ever exceeded your IQ
9) your dog and your wallet are both on chains
10) your toilet paper has page numbers on it
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

Same could be said for a Trona resident or so how it is perceived.

Sparky of SoCal: No doubt that there are lots of rednecks most anywhere you go. Trona and Ridgecrest have plenty. The Owens Valley is full of them and then there's Bakersfield, Arizona, Wyoming, Texas, etc. Maybe not too many in New York City or San Francisco, but I don't think anyone expects to encounter rednecks in such localities.
