EMERGENCY MEETING - School employees and board members were the only people in attendance. The meeting was held in the high school library. Since water to the school is shut off, there was no cooling and so the library was like an oven!
HIGHLIGHTS:
1) Three buildings were YELLOW TAGGED - District Office/Auditorium, Gymnasium, and High School Cafeteria.
2) Asbestos Issues - Despite being GREEN TAGGED many buildings have not yet been inspected for possible asbestos issues. Testing will be done in the near future.
3) Elementary B-wing tile disruption makes the multi-purpose room unusable, but the rest of the elementary appears to be usable following clean up.
4) High School - Not a safe environment for many reasons despite being GREEN TAGGED. An architect is working on an estimated repair cost for the high school.
5) WATER - Currently off for the entire district because of several leaks observed at the high school. No leaks observed at the elementary and so water may be on there soon following a more careful inspection.
6) Gymnasium - Various inspectors impressed by SEVENTEEN INCH incline of gymnasium with the street end being the lower end.
7) SPORTS - Football practice starting this week and volleyball next week after gym cleared out. Currently being used as disaster resource center.
8) SAVE PLASTIC BOTTLES!!! - They could be worth a lot due to possible matching funds programs. It is estimated that a few million bottles were brought to Searles Valley and given out for free. If all collected and turned in for recycling, they could be worth a lot of money.
9) POOL - Possibly open later this week if no issue observed.
10) At this time it is anticipated that school will start as planned on August 19th. ( http://www.blackturtle.us/TTA/cal20.jpg )
