ergot: This is absolutely brilliant. Most people aren't passive victims and they aren't just going to play along with someone else's game. At some point one game is transformed into another and those who instigated the original game become stunned by the new game they unintentionally involved themselves in. As you say, SOME PEOPLE PLAY FOR KEEPS.
ergot wrote:Different People Emulate Different Fictional Presentations
Take this example from South Park where kids playing "Lord of the Rings" make fun of kids playing "Harry Potter." This "Survivor" show seems kind of wimpy compared to lots of other shows or movies which could be emulated.

People playing "Survivor" might want to be careful since they could met up with someone playing "A Fist Full Of Dollars." Some people play for keeps.

BoraxBill: Very astute observation. Games are never productive unless they are used to counter someone else's game.
BoraxBill wrote:ergot: I think that's what's known as a clash of paradigms. When a group of "Survivors" try to play the "Survivor" game with someone playing "Clint Eastwood", the "Survivors" aren't likely to survive very long. Not everyone is a good sport, especially when they are forced to participate in a game they didn't sign up for!

Transactional Analysis games - introduction
The term "games" has a special meaning within the context of TA. If you're not familiar with TA, I suggest you watch this video and then a few more.

People Who Died Recreating These Movie Scenes
Although Transactional Analysis doesn't necessarily have anything to do with people living out movie or TV show scenarios, there is a parallel to be drawn. The term "games" refers to stereotypical scripts which underlie the behavior of people in real life. Sometimes game elements are present in fictional presentations. However, fictional presentations can inspire new games and other times fictional presentations are emulated to make life seem more exciting. In either case, behavior patterns of this type tend to be maladaptive or dysfunctional and ultimately unrealistic. Although the "Survivor" game might not be physically dangerous, at least not on the surface, it could lead to an escalation which could include interactions which might be less than safe.

Mean Girls (9/10) Movie CLIP - Regina Meets Bus (2004) HD
Someone mentioned "mean girls." There was a movie by that name. Here's a scene.

If Jordan Peterson's New Book Upsets You Watch This
It sounds like some version of this is going on at the school in Trona. It's a case of the stupidest people on the staff having the most influence. There seems to be a generational issue going on where many (not all) young people seem to think that they know more than the older, more experienced people. It's a strange kind of arrogance on a level never before seen.

desertrat: Maybe it should be called the "Greta Syndrome" since young Greta was so quick to lecture people who know far more than she will ever know. She has no clue how bad the environment was during the 1960s and 1970s and what huge improvements have been made since then. There are many times more people living in California now than then and yet there is far less pollution. It is amazing what has been done. She should be congratulating her audience and praising them for all that has been accomplished rather than berating them with her ignorant words. We can do better, but some stupid little girl whining about how bad things are isn't going to make things better. It's not even slightly motivating, but it is insanely annoying!

What To Do When Your Child Gets The Teacher You Were Hoping To Avoid?
Parents have become more picky and critical during this COVID-lockdown-distance-learning situation and there has been lots of complaining about teachers all across the country as a result. There seems to be a trend where teachers are being picked on for the most trivial aspects of their teaching style. Parents who are hypercritical of teachers set their children up for future failure. It's best to help children to adapt to teaching methods and styles which they don't like:
Perhaps you can take some solace in these three thoughts:

First, it’s good for kids to experience all types of teaching styles throughout their academic careers. While a particular style might be ideal for your child, the world will not bend to your child’s preferences, so it’s better to learn how to adapt to different approaches sooner rather than later.

Second, you may discover that while a certain teaching style appeals to you, a different approach might be better for your child. It’s hard to tell how a student will respond to a particular teaching style unless they have been immersed in that environment for a period of time.

Third, give this teacher a chance to win you over. I cannot tell you how many times I have been told by parents midway through a school year that they were disappointed that their child was assigned to my class at the beginning of the year but have now reversed course entirely.

Inspirational Teacher Stories Are Stupid, Unrealistic, and Counter-Productive
Cluelessly missing the point doesn't help to solve real problems or make things better, but it does cause people to experience a warm feewing deep inside. Pathetic!
