Shirley Fire, near Lake Isabella, California
This one is putting a ton of smoke in the air! :ack:
The Shirley Fire southwest of Kernville and west of Wofford Heights, California was very active Sunday afternoon, pushed by west and west-northwest winds gusting up to 26 mph.

InciWeb: Incident Information System
This is an interesting site that lists major incidents. At this time there's a fire in Alaska called the 100 Mile Creek Fire that has has burned 23,000 acres. The Shirley Fire is only up to 2,300 acres so far.

California Wildfire Forces Evacuation of Over 500 Homes
It was just a few weeks ago that I visited some people in Wofford Heights. Hopefully they're doing alright. This has got to be frightening for them. I still haven't heard anything about how the fire started.

Smokey-the-Bear Turns 70
Looks like a whole bunch of California fires have been skipped over in this thread, but not to fear, I'm sure that Smokey still took care of them just the same!

I remember hearing somewhere that his name is Smoky Bear and that some folks get real offended when you call him Smoky the bear; as if he is the only one left. When you think about it they call Barny the dinosaur just plain Barny and he really is the only one left; unless you count Dino from the Flinstones. But they are portrayed as being from the past so I don't think they actually count. I really don't see what all the fuss is about!

Well, they put a THE in Oscar the Grouch even though my experience is that there are plenty of grouches around!

Well, it's Kermit The Frog and as far as I'm concerned what's good enough for a frog is good enough for a bear! LOL
