Study Says Droughts In The Southwest Could Become More Frequent
Actually the study suggests a POSSIBILITY of a pattern of greater dryness, but admits that projections based on available data are unreliable.

Lake Isabella Rises
Whiskey Flats or Old Kernville. It's going to be covered with water soon most likely.

Lake Isabella at lowest levels in California
The southern Sierras don't seem to be getting a lot of rain or snow, but the forecast is for El Nino to be especially strong during April form what I've heard. Also the snow melt will have some kind of effect. There must be a fair amount of snow up in the higher elevations.

This is surprising. I figured there was enough rain to at least raise the water level 20 or 30 percent. Snow melt ought to at least bring it up some. If it doesn't we're in trouble.

sandman: I heard that the level has risen a few feet in thelast week and it's expected to continue to rise steadily at least until the end of June. I'd be surprised if the water level isn't at least ten feet higher by the beginning of summer. I think that's still well below normal, but it's a huge improvement compared to where it was!

Sierra runoff projected higher than normal this year
Even this year the totals are lower than normal, especially in the southern part of the Sierras. It may be a lot better than the last few years, but it's still not where it ought to be.

Can Air Be A Water Source During A Drought?
It seems farfetched to think that this could actually work, but scientists from Harvard are actually developing the technology.

Go ahead and water your yard all you want. The word is that water conservation mandates are likely to be lifted. At least for this year it looks like we won't have to worry about rationing or fines for excessive water use. El Nino driven rains have provided enough water to allow relaxation of restrictions imposed during the last two years.

SHADYLADY: It's good to have the threat of rationing and punitive measures lifted, but inevitably there will be a time in the not too distant future where we will be in the same situaiton all over again. That's not to say that a temporary break is not very much welcomed!

While this wouldn't totally solve the problem, it would be a tremendous help.
