LAST DAY OF SUMMER? It could be the last day of vacation before kids head back to school. Or it could be Labor Day. Or it could be Equinox which is usually around Sept 20 or so. I go with Labor Day personally, but any way you slice it, we're not too far from the end of summer! That said, there are still plenty of hot days yet to come!

Maybe I'm a traditionalist, but the Autumn Equinox is what defines the end of summer and the beginning of fall. The beginning of summer is the Summer Solstice. It's just that simple. Summer is defined by natural events and not what people do. Whether it's the ending and beginning of the school year or Memorial Day and Labor Day, those things are just approximately coincidental to the actual start and end dates of summer.

The consecutive days over 100F degrees count got cut short on August 3rd when the high only made it to 98F. All of July went above 100F, plus 17 days in June and 2 days in August. That puts the total consecutive days over 100F at FIFTY! Although every day since August 3rd has topped 100F, it is doubtful that the streak will last much longer since September is about a week away.

Why So Many Major Hurricanes in 2017? | NBC Nightly News
Summer isn't technically over until September 21st and already two huge hurricanes back east. Did climate change due to human activity cause them or would they have happened regardless of anything we did?
