Scientists genetically engineer the world’s first blue chrysanthemum
Science is now a tool for artistic expression like it has never been before!
True blue requires complex chemistry. Anthocyanins—pigment molecules in the petals, stem, and fruit—consist of rings that cause a flower to turn red, purple, or blue, depending on what sugars or other groups of atoms are attached. Conditions inside the plant cell also matter. So just transplanting an anthocyanin from a blue flower like a delphinium didn’t really work.

U.S. flower sellers rush to destroy illegal GE petunias
Illegal petunias? Oh, my!
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced today that U.S. flower distributors have begun to destroy countless petunia plants after federal scientists confirmed that they were genetically engineered (GE) to produce vivid orange, red, and purple blooms. The agency says the flowers pose no risk to the environment or to human health, but GE organisms need special permits to be sold in the United States.

What I want to see are common plants such as apples, carrots, or lettuce that are genetically modified to express the genes which produce THC. No good reason other than that it would be awesome!

An awesome idea like that needs no reason. It's like great art. It should be done just because not doing it would simply be a waste of an opportunity.
