There are many lifestyle choices which may help prevent Alzheimer's disease, but maintaining neural plasticity and cognitive reserve might be the most effective way of preventing the disease.
LDL carries cholesterol to where the body needs it. Cholesterol is used by the body to make hormones, cell membranes, and even brain tissue. So LDL is not bad as medical propaganda claims. It's free radicals that are bad because free radicals oxidize LDL which turns LDL into oxidized LDL. It's oxidized LDL, not LDL, that causes plaque building in arteries and clogs arteries. HDL is not oxidized by free radicals because it contains an antioxidant (paraoxonase). Antioxidants neutralize free radicals.
That doesn’t mean Alzheimer’s is contagious, but that some people’s brains may over-react to or get overwhelmed by a variety of pathogens, including chlamydia, herpes and the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, Tanzi said. It’s possible that younger people’s brains can handle such issues, but some older ones can’t.
